Michael Kiwanuka cancels all shows due to health issues

Mercury Prize-winning musician Michael Kiwanuka has cancelled all upcoming shows due to an ongoing illness.

Kiwanuka’s last performance took place earlier this month at Festival Pirineous Sur in Spain. His busy summer schedule has also seen him play at a series of festivals in Europe, including Bilbao BBK Live, Orange Warsaw, INMusic, Sofia Live, Primavera Sound Porto and Best Kept Secret.

He had also been set to bring his show to huge European festivals Pukkelpop and Sziget, as well as Victorious Festival in Portsmouth, and All Together Now in Ireland, but these sets have now been cancelled.

Additionally, Kiwanuka will no longer be hitting the road with Mumford and Sons in North America or playing headline dates on the continent in October.

The statement, issued on behalf of the singer, shared on Instagram Stories reads: “We are so sorry to announce that due to continued illness, and on the advice of doctors, Michael will sadly be unable to perform at the rest of his scheduled festival performances throughout the rest of the summer and the shows in North America in October (including the support tour with Mumford & Sons).”

It continued: “We know this is disappointing news to hear, and nobody is more disappointed and saddened than Michael to no longer be taking to the stage as planned. Love and thanks to everyone for their understanding.”

Last year, Kiwanuka released his latest album, Small Changes. In a four-and-a-half star review, Far Out wrote: “Blending his diverse influences into a mediative, dream-like palette that’s perfectly produced, with the warmth and natural emotion of his voice supported by the natural hue of analogue recording and deference to the greats of yesteryear; it’s the kind of body of work wherein you find your mind wandering and a serious sense of personal equilibrium restored.”
