Michael Jackson breaks longstanding US chart record following ‘Michael’ trailer
Michael Jackson‘s ‘Thriller’ is back in the Billboard Hot 100, landing him a new chart record.
In the latest edition of the chart, ‘Thriller’ has jumped up 22 places from 32nd to 10th, which has made the ‘King of Pop’ the first artist in history to own one particular Billboard Hot 100 record.
Jackson has become the first musician to have a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in six different decades. In his case, Jackson, who died in 2009, has done this in the 1970s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, ’10s, and ’20s.
Per Billboard, following this feat, Jackson has overtaken Andy Williams, the late singer behind’ It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’, who has charted in the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ‘10s and ’20s.
The return of ‘Thriller’ to the charts coincides with the release of the trailer for the upcoming biopic, Michael, which stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as his late uncle and marks the actor’s debut in a feature film.
Notably, the film has faced a number of issues and was originally intended to be released in 2025, but now will arrive in cinemas on April 26th, 2026.
The synopsis reads, “The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.”
It continues, “Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.”
Since the trailer arrived last week, it has smashed two records after attracting 116.2 million views worldwide in the first 24 hours following its release. This is the most views for any music biopic or production by Lionsgate.
