Michael Bublé condemns Donald Trump’s Canada plan: “We are not for sale”

Michael Bublé has blasted Donald Trump‘s plans to turn Canada into the 51st American state, saying, “We are not for sale.”

The singer was hosting the 2025 Juno Awards, Canada’s biggest music awards, on March 30th when he made an impassioned speech against the US president’s stark proposals, appearing to become emotional at points when defending his native country.

He said: “I’m a hometown kid who never left. And as I stand here and I look out at my fellow artists in a sold-out arena with millions watching at home, I’m proud to be Canadian,” before adding, “I’m proud that when they go low, we go high.”

Bublé continued: “Bottom line, we love this country. We love it, and when you love something, you show up for it. And we always will. We will because we’re formidable, because we’re fearless, because we don’t just acknowledge our differences — we embrace them. Because they don’t just make us stronger; they make us a hell of a lot more interesting.”

Issuing a rallying cry to every corner of the country, he concluded: “We’re the North, the Pacific, we’re the Atlantic, we’re the Great Lakes, we’re the Rocky Mountains, and we are the wide open spaces. Folks, we are one of a kind. We are beautiful. We are the greatest nation on earth! And we are not for sale!”

It comes as Trump has imposed various severe tariffs on Canadian exports since he retook office in January, threatening the slide into a trade war between the countries and the president ultimately claiming that he could annex Canada to become the newest state of America.

This has naturally been met with widespread backlash from across the Canadian political and celebrity sphere, with the likes of Bublé backing messages of condemnation from the country’s new prime minister, Mark Carney.
