Michael B. Jordan provides new update on ‘I Am Legend 2’

Several years ago, a sequel to the popular action thriller I Am Legend was announced, with Will Smith set to reprise his role as Robert Neville. However, fans will still have to wait a while for the movie to hit cinemas, as filming is yet to begin.

Michael B. Jordan, best known for his roles in movies like the Creed series and Black Panther, will appear in the new movie, although his role has not been revealed. Although there has been much silence surrounding the upcoming project, Jordan has now confirmed it’s still set to be made.

The Hollywood star has provided an update on the status of production, telling People that “We’re still working on the script and getting that up to par.”

Akiva Goldsman, who previously collaborated with Mark Protosevich on the first movie, has written the script for I Am Legend 2. While the details surrounding filming and release dates remain vague, Jordan shared that he was excited to dive into the project, which he is co-producing with several others, including Smith.

“It doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to be filming that one, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him,” he added, sharing his joy to be working with a veteran actor like Smith.

Jordan continued: “Being somebody that I’ve looked up to for a really long time, to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited.”

Fans of the first film might be confused as to how Smith will be reprising his role as virologist Neville since his character dies at the end. After the Darkseekers attack, he destroys both them and himself with a grenade. His decision is a heroic act, allowing the cure needed to stop the deadly virus from spreading to be saved. Neville then becomes a martyr, praised for sacrificing himself in the name of humanity.

Yet, there’s an alternative ending available on DVD copies of the movie, which sees Neville make it out of the film alive. In this version, Neville realises the pain he has caused his test subjects, and after sharing a moment of understanding with a Darkseeker, he steps away from his research and heads towards a survivor’s colony.

This is the ending that the sequel will follow, allowing Smith to play Neville again. If this movie is anything like the first, it could smash the box office. When I Am Legend was released in 2007, it earned a worldwide gross of $585 million.
