Michael B Jordan is heading to the ‘Battlefield’ in forthcoming Christopher McQuarrie video game adaptation

After taking home an Oscar for his recent dual-performance in Sinners, Michael B Jordan has revealed that his next move will be as producer, and possibly star, of a video game adaptation of the long-running war series, Battlefield.

As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher McQuarrie is also attached to write and direct the project. McQuarrie is a fellow Oscar winner, having taken home the illustrious prize for ‘Best Original Screenplay’ for his thriller The Usual Suspects.

Together, the pair have allegedly been pitching the A-list project to studios and streamers, such as Apple and Sony. Reports suggest that they have been favouring a theatrical release.

Jordan’s role outside of the producer seat is not yet confirmed, as his involvement infront of the camera, as well as behind it, “depends on several factors”.

The military video game from Electronic Arts started in 2002 and has boasted mainstream success ever since. In 2025, the 18th edition, named Battlefield 6, became the biggest-selling game of the year.

This path has been tread twice before. In 2012, Fox tried to turn the popular game into a television series, as did Paramount in 2016. Jordan and McQuarrie are hoping to have more success this time around.

Jordan has his eye on the action realm; recently, it was announced that the 39-year-old will star in a new Miami Vice movie from the Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. He will star opposite Austin Butler in Miami Vice 85, slated for a 2027 release.

McQuarrie has plenty of experience with the genre; he is best known as Tom Cruise’s creative partner and is the mastermind behind many Mission: Impossible films, including Rogue NationFalloutDead Reckoning, as well as the critically-acclaimed Jack Reacher.

Video game adaptations are becoming a huge draw for cinemas. This year will see Mortal Kombat II, Street Fighter, The Angry Birds Movie 3, and Resident Evil hit the big screen, indicative of the appetite for them.
