Mexican singer Julión Álvarez cancels huge US stadium show due to visa being revoked
Mexican singer Julión Álvarez has explained that he cancelled his performance at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, due to having his visa revoked.
Álvarez and his band, Su Norteño Banda, had sold 50,000 tickets for the show, which was scheduled to take place on May 24th. However, 24 hours before the concert was scheduled to take place, he announced the cancellation, citing visa issues.
In an Instagram video, Álvarez shared with his 3.7 million followers: “Sadly, the event will not go on as planned due to our work visa being cancelled. It is not possible for us to go to the United States and fulfill our show promise with all of you.”
He continued: “It’s something out of our control. That’s the information I have, and it hurts. It’s an event that was completely sold out.”
The star is now working with promoters CMN and Copar Music to reschedule the performance for a new date. Refunds are available upon request, or fans can hold on to their tickets, which will remain valid for the rescheduled date, which is yet to be announced.
Álvarez previously had his visa revoked in 2017 by the US Treasury Department relating to allegations that the singer had connections to a drug trafficking ring. He strenuously denied this assertion and maintained his innocence. The singer was eventually removed from the sanctions list.
Last month, Álvarez performed three huge shows at the at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which marked his first US concerts in eight years.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Michelada Fest in Chicago has been cancelled in 2025 due to issues surrounding securing artist visas. The event, which specialises in Latin music, shared: “Due to the uncertainty surrounding artist visas and the rapidly changing political climate, we’re no longer able to guarantee the full experience we had dreamed up for you with all your favorite artists.”
Danny Ocean, Anitta, Grupo Firme, and Netón Vega were booked as headliners for the Chicago festival. Their line-up also boasted Mexican corridor group Los Alegres del Barranco, who, earlier this year, had their visas revoked.
