Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted is not joining Megadeth

Last week Megadeth confirmed that they had parted ways with bassist and co-founder David Ellefson following accusations of online grooming.

Thereafter, it has long been speculated that Jason Newsted would team up with his former Metallica cohort, Dave Mustaine, but it would now appear that such a move has been ruled out.

As Newsted isn’t on social media his wife, Nicole Newsted, posted a statement on his behalf. She wrote: “Hi guys! Two things: 1. Jason is not joining Megadeth. Peace to them. Listen to metal.”

She continued, “2. Jason does not have social media accounts; this includes but is not limited to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Onlyfans and Tinder. If you are receiving DMs from the Jason Newsted music account or any other account claiming to be Jason please know this is not Jason, and proceed at your own risk.”

People were also quick to point out that Newsted and Mustaine never actually appeared in Metallica at the same time as Mustaine was fired just prior to the release of their debut record for excessive drinking which prompted him to form Megadeth, however, naturally their paths have crossed in other ways.

With the finishing touches being applied to Megadeth’s forthcoming album and a tour with Lamb of God on the horizon the band will be keen to secure a replacement bassist soon, thus more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
