We are digging the sun and the last hope of an eternal summer this evening, so with that in mind there was only ever one choice for today’s Track of the Day. Brightoninan Max Pope has been catching our eye for a while now and his newest song ‘Less Than Nothing’ may be his best yet.
A song written about “Achieving nothing with your time” as Pope puts it seemed incredibly appropriate at the end of a barely-working week. And it truly fits the bill with gentle jangling guitars and a soundscape so hazy it makes Cheech and Chong seem erudite.
It’s hard not to compare him to Mac DeMarco’s work, even more so on this new song, but it is testament to Pope that he has still added his own flecks of creativity to an otherwise slacker sound.
