Marvel denies using AI in ‘The Fantastic Four’ poster

Marvel has hit back at fans after rumours abounded on social media that the company had used artificial intelligence to create promotional posters for its new instalment of The Fantastic Four.

Excitement reached fever pitch among superhero fans worldwide yesterday, February 4th, when the teaser trailer for the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps was released.

But anticipation soon gave way to confusion when eagle-eyed audience members started becoming suspicious of the posters that were unveiled alongside the first look, with some claiming that the use of AI explained perceived inconsistencies in the images.

Marvel has now come out to deny these allegations, with a spokesperson bluntly telling IndieWire that: “AI was not used in the creation of these posters.” Even still, it has opened the door to an increasingly loud conversation across the film industry about the use of AI in place of usual movie-making technologies.

Within this, Oscar-tipped film The Brutalist starring Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones has recently come under fire as director Brody Corbet was forced to admit that AI software was utilised to enhance the Hungarian accent work of his actors. He said it “was used in Hungarian language dialogue editing only, specifically to refine certain vowels and letters for accuracy.”

For The Fantastic Four, the impact of AI remains to be seen. The hotly anticipated blockbuster, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, will be the first instalment of the superhero series in ten years, and also the first produced by Disney’s Marvel Studios after they acquired the rights from 20th Century Fox in 2019.

It is set for release in the UK on July 25th, 2025.
