Martin Scorsese announces full details of new project

Killers of the Flower Moon director Martin Scorsese has shared the full details of his upcoming documentary series, The Saints.

The eight-part series is set to air on Fox Nation and will arrive in two parts. The first batch of episodes will arrive on the broadcaster on November 16th. However, fans of Scorsese will have to be patient as the second half of the documentary series isn’t scheduled to arrive until May, 2025.

Over the eight episodes, Scorsese will follow the journey of eight men and women who successfully reached sainthood. In addition to hosting the documentary series, the Academy Award-winning director will also offer narration and executively produce the set of episodes.

Matti Leshem is the creator of The Saints, meanwhile the series has been written by Kent Jones and Elizabeth Chomko has been tasked with directing the upcoming project.

The series promises to explore the stories of Joan of Arc, John the Baptist, Thomas Becket, Francis of Assisi, Moses the Black, Sebastian, Maximillian Kolbe and Mary Magdalene.

In a statement, Scorsese said of the upcoming series: “I’ve lived with the stories of the saints for most of my life, thinking about their words and actions, imagining the worlds they inhabited, the choices they faced, the examples they set.”

The Wolf of Wall Street director added: “These are stories of eight very different men and women, each of them living through vastly different periods of history and struggling to follow the way of love revealed to them and to us by Jesus’ words in the gospels. I’m so excited that this project is underway, and that I’m working with so many trusted and talented collaborators.”

Additionally, last year, Scorsese announced plans for his next feature film, focusing on the teachings of Jesus. In January, it was revealed the screenplay for the upcoming movie has already been finished.

The filmmaker previously said of the upcoming production: “I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organized religion.”

Scorsese also stated his ambitions for the as-yet-untitled movie, which he wants to provoke viewers: “Right now, ‘religion,’ you say that word and everyone is up in arms because it’s failed in so many ways. But that doesn’t mean necessarily that the initial impulse was wrong.”

He added: “Let’s get back. Let’s just think about it. You may reject it. But it might make a difference in how you live your life – even in rejecting it. Don’t dismiss it offhand. That’s all I’m talking about.”
