Martin Lawrence provides health update following viral ‘Bad Boys 4’ premiere clip
After a clip went viral on social media following the Bad Boys: Ride or Die premiere in Los Angeles, many suggested that Martin Lawrence body language suggested a furtive illness, which the star has now denied in a health update.
In the clip, Lawrence and his co-star from the movie franchise, Will Smith, are seen waving to their fans from an open-top bus. Smith appears to help an unsteady Lawrence on his feet towards the edge of the bus to allow him to address the crowd.
On June 4th, the two stars visited Hot 97 to appear on Ebro in the Morning, and host Ebro Darden questioned Lawrence on the conjecture surrounding his health following fears from fans expressed on social media.
Addressing the actor, Darden said, “Everybody’s talking [about] you on the balcony waving at people… people took it like something was wrong with your health, or something,” coming straight to the point to put fans at ease.
Denouncing such claims, Lawrence revealed that he was simply astonished by the sheer number of people who appeared and their enthusiasm for the movie. “I was like, oh, this is rock concert stuff,” he laughed. “What the hell is going on? For a movie?”
Still dissatisfied with Lawrence’s supposed denial, Darden sought a more direct answer. “But on that note, Martin, is there anything you want to say to the people because they’re concerned about your health,” he asked.
The 59-year-old actor vehemently denied any health concerns, referencing his religious faith in the fact. “I’m fine. I’m in God’s hands,” he asserted. “I’m blessed. You know, I’m glad to be waking up every day. I’m all good. No need for people to be concerned.”
The interview eventually dropped the topic as the actors discussed their exciting return as budding cops in Bad Boys 4. However, at the end of the conversation, Lawrence again addressed his concerned fans, jovially reaffirming, “I’m healthy as hell. Stop the rumours!”
While fans seem to have overreacted to limited information, Lawrence does have a history of health concerns. In 1996, he entered the hospital after allegedly running into dangerous traffic and spouting expletives. Medical professionals determined that the actor was suffering from exhaustion and dehydration.
In 1999, he was hospitalised once again in a three-day coma resulting from severe exhaustion after exercising in severe heat. Presumably, the actor was prone to dehydration or had to learn his lesson to drink more water the hard way, twice.
