Watch Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega star in trailer for ‘Miller’s Girl’
In the first trailer for the upcoming erotic thriller Miller’s Girl, Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman appear together as student and teacher.
The new movie, written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, is set to premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival next month prior to its cinematic release on January 26th.
Ortega, best known for her lead role in Tim Burton’s Wednesday, stars as Cairo, a talented young writer who enters a complex and comical relationship with her teacher, Freeman’s Jonathan Miller, after he sets a troublesome assignment.
“Why did you write this?” Freeman asks Ortega in the new trailer. “This is inappropriate.” Ortega then responds, “‘Write what you know’ is what you said.”
“If she can convince them that something happened between us, I would lose my job,” Freeman reflects later, suggesting a tense situation.
Scripted by Bartlett, Miller’s Girl co-stars Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin and Gideon Adlon. Meanwhile, the picture was produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Josh Fagen and Mary-Margaret Kunze.
The official synopsis for the film reads: “A talented young writer (Ortega) embarks on a creative odyssey when her teacher (Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.”
Elsewhere, Ortega has recently starred in the Paramount+ crime thriller Finestkind and will hit the big screen in Warner Bros’ Beetlejuice 2 in 2024. The actor announced her departure from the highly-anticipated Scream VII project last month following the dismissal of Melissa Barrera.
Freeman, best known for his roles in The Office, Sherlock and the Hobbit saga, most recently appeared in the Marvel mini-series Secret Invasion. The Disney+ original saw Freeman star alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke and Don Cheadle.
