The new biopic on English singer/songwriter Marianne Faithfull has finally got its leading actress as Lucy Boynton is confirmed to play the singer in the upcoming Faithfull.
The new biopic will see Boynton take on the role of Executive Producer and Ian Bonhôte, a BAFTA nominee for his documentary McQueen, will direct the project.
Boynton wil take on another role in rock and roll history following her last film role in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, in which she played Freddie Mercury’s friend and partner Mary Austin.
Faithfull will follow the singer’s life in the public eye. It sees her rise from teen pop sensation to the throne of the swinging sixties and then back down to homelessness as well as her wondrous return.
Director Ian Bonhôte told Deadline, “Marianne is an extraordinary woman who rebelled against the male dominated music industry. The film will explore female-issues as well as the injustices she suffered in her quest to be recognised as an artist. I’m honoured to collaborate with Lucy and Julia to shine a light on Marianne’s timeless story.”
Marianne Faithfull added, “I am delighted that my story is finally being made with my dream team of Lucy, Julia and Ian.”
