Margot Robbie believes Will Arnett deserves an Oscar for ‘Is This Thing On?’ despite nominations snub
Margot Robbie has said she believes Will Arnett should receive an Oscar for his role in Is This Thing On?.
The actor was appearing on the latest episode of the SmartLess podcast, which Arnett hosts alongside Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, when she started heaping praise on him for his turn in the recent comedy biopic.
At the very start of the interview, Robbie interjected the conversation to note: “Will, I have to say, I fucking loved Is This Thing On?.”
She added: “You are so good in it, and I swear to God, literally as soon as I finished watching it, the first thing I said [was]: ‘Give this man an Oscar’. You are so unreal in it, and I loved it.”
Arnett has been receiving praise for his role as Alex Novak in the comedy-drama directed by Bradley Cooper, which is loosely based on the life story of British comic John Bishop. Nevertheless, it was snubbed by the Oscars and didn’t receive a single nomination.
Incidentally, Arnett’s podcast co-host Hayes also stars in the film in a smaller role, playing one half of a couple opposite his real-life husband, Scott Icenogle.
However, that movie was not the main intended subject of discussion over the course of the podcast episode, with Robbie deep-diving into a number of her most prolific roles, including in her latest film, Wuthering Heights.
When asked how emotional the romantic drama still makes her after seeing it “many times”, Robbie responded: “Every time. I’ve never watched it and not cried. Never.”
To this end, the film, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Jacob Elordi opposite Robbie, has opened as the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, despite receiving a wide spread of mixed reviews.
