Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ delayed by several months

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s upcoming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from acclaimed director Kogonada has been pushed back from its original May 2025 release date until September 2025.

Details of the film have been kept under wraps, but it is described as a romantic fantasy about a pair of strangers who, as the title suggests, embark on an epic journey. The script was written by The Menu screenwriter Seth Reiss and was featured on the coveted Black List in 2020 – a yearly roundup of screenplays that are beloved in the industry but unproduced. Juno, Spotlight, and The Revenant were previous entries in the list.

Kogonada, who began his career making video essays that explored unifying themes across cinema, made his feature debut in 2017 with Columbus, instantly making him a critical darling.

His second feature, the science fiction drama After Yang, was equally well-received. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will be his third feature and the first that he has not written.

Although a film’s release delay often raises concerns about poor test screenings and re-editing, the reason for this movie’s delay is supposedly positive. According to Variety, a September release will put it alongside a slate of horror and male-led films, giving it greater potential to stand out from the crowd.

The film was part of a bidding war early last year when it was announced that Kogonada, Robbie, and Farrell were attached.

Sony Pictures eventually won the day, paying an estimated $50 million for the rights. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge were announced for the supporting cast, and filming began in California in April last year.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is now scheduled to be released on September 19th, 2025.
