Manchester tribute concert confirmed for The Stone Roses legend Mani

Exactly four months on from his death, a Manchester tribute concert has been confirmed for the late The Stone Roses bassist, Gary ‘Mani‘ Mounfield, set to take place on May 30th.

The musical icon, who was also celebrated for his work in Primal Scream, passed away at his home in Greater Manchester, Heaton Moor, on November 20th at the age of 63. He perished due to respiratory issues that the long-standing lung condition, emphysema, had caused.

Now, it has been announced that a host of rock and roll musicians will unite for one day to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved performer.

The event has been dubbed “a tribute to a true Manc legend,” and leads with the pun-tastic title, Manichester. The event will be hosted in partnership with Madchester.com and organised by Manchester streetwear brand GIOGOI.

The announcement on social media also shares that the event has been “blessed by Mani’s family”.

The post online also reveals plenty of the huge names who are taking part in the tribute event, including an “AAA headliner” who is confirmed, but yet to be announced.

Cast are also set to celebrate Mani’s legacy, alongside the likes of Joy Division’s Peter Hook, The Kowloons, Dave McCabe from The Zutons, Baz Fratelli from The Fratellis, Zak Starkey from Mantra of the Cosmos, ex-Oasis drummer Steve White, and Jon McClure from Reverend and the Makers.

The event will also feature a “specially assembled core band” featuring Aziz Ibrahim of The Stone Roses, Rowetta, Simone Butler, formerly of Primal Scream, and Mick Rossi from Slaughter and The Dogs.

More names are expected to be added to the lineup; “that’s just the start”, the post teases. Additionally, “all proceeds will support Mani and Imelda’s twin boys, Gene and George, honouring the love, strength and spirit that defined their family.”
