Man arrested after driving van into a crowd of people at PinkPop festival

A man has handed himself in to police after he drove a van into a group of people near a Dutch music festival which resulted in one fatality.

The 34-year-old man in custody is being held on suspicion of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter after a 35-year-old male died during the incident.

Festival organisers have also confirmed that three other people were critically injured in the incident which took place in Landgraaf in the south of the Netherlands. In a statement, the organisers of PinkPop said they were “deeply shocked” and boss Jan Smeets said “It’s really terrible that such a great party should come to such an abrupt end.”

The incident, which police have been unable to say wether deliberate or not, took place at 04:00 local time close to one of the festival’s many campsites.

The man was arrested 140 miles away from the festival in the capital, Amsterdam, after turning himself into police.
