Strike a pose: Madonna’s clothes stolen from Coachella following appearance with Sabrina Carpenter
After flying high while appearing as a surprise guest during Sabrina Carpenter’s set at Coachella over the weekend, Madonna has landed back to Earth with a bang, having to appeal for the return of her stolen clothes.
The ‘Queen of Pop’ surprised fans at the California music festival on April 17th after she joined Carpenter on stage to perform her iconic hits ‘Like a Prayer’, ‘Vogue’, and a new duet rumoured to come from her upcoming album, Confessions II.
However, the singer has now had to release a statement on her Instagram Stories, appealing for the outfit she was wearing to be returned to her, after it was stolen from the festival.
Reflecting on her last appearance at Coachella, which took place 20 years ago, the ‘Holiday’ singer wrote in her April 21st post: “This full circle moment hit different until I discovered that the vintage pieces that I wore went missing – my costume that was pulled from my personal archives – jacket, corset, dress, and all other garments.”
Madonna added: “These aren’t just clothes, they are part of my history”, before noting that other “archival items from the same era” had also disappeared.
The singer said she hoped a “kind soul” would return the items, giving her fans an email address to contact if they had any information as well as an unspecified “reward” if the clothes come back to her.
It seems that Madonna had inadvertently made a target for her own back while appearing on stage during Carpenter’s set, as she explained to the crowd that she was wearing the same jacket, corset, and boots as she did during her own Coachella slot 20 years ago.
Despite this, the pair performed a new duet called ‘Bring Me Love’, with a pop-inflected, catchy chorus of, “Bring your love, because you cannot shake me, bring your love, because you’ll never break me, bring your love, because you cannot take me down”.
Madonna described her appearance, 20 years to the day since her own set in Coachella’s dance tent, as “very meaningful”, ahead of the release of her new album in July.
Her new album, Confessions II, is set for release on July 3rd and marks the follow-up to 2005’s Confessions on a Dancefloor. With it being her first record in some seven years, the singer laid out a “manifesto” upon its announcement: “We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies.”
