Macaulay Culkin shares his idea for a new ‘Home Alone’ movie
Macaulay Culkin has admitted that he would be interested in another Home Alone sequel, as long as the story was “just right”. Luckily enough, he has his own idea.
The festive season apparently has Culkin ready to pitch his own idea for a continuation of the classic Christmas story: “I kind of had this idea,” he admitted during a recent stop on his tour, titled A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin.
He continued, “I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard, and I’m not really paying enough attention, and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me, and then I get locked out.”
He added, “[Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”
In the original 1990 movie, Home Alone follows Kevin McCallister, played by Culkin, who is accidentally left behind when his parents go on vacation over the holiday season. He is terrorised by two burglars at home.
In Culkin’s new idea, he believes the robbers could be replaced with the original star of the show. He expanded on the idea: “he house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship”.
Consequently, the character he might then take on has to “get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal.” He added, ‘That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.”
Nonetheless, not everyone who worked on the original project is keen to work on another installment. In August, director Chris Columbus made headlines when he told Entertainment Tonight that he is against a new Home Alone movie.
At the time, he stated, “I think Home Alone really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that.”
He finished, “I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.”
