Mac DeMarco releases ‘Phantom’, the third and final single from new album

Mac DeMarco has released ‘Phantom’, the final preview from his upcoming album, Guitar, out on August 22nd.

‘Phantom’ is a slow, melancholic musing on grief and endings. DeMarco sings on the track, “Sure I’d give it up / Just for one more chance to say / Goodnight, oh my love / Was it real or just fantasy?”

He later adds, “Your phantom sits with me / When I’m all alone / I love you still,” a refrain he repeats twice in the song.

The single is a follow-up to his second release, ‘Holy’, and his first, ‘Home’, which was similar in its meandering and lovelorn quality. The record was written entirely from his home in Los Angeles in November 2024.

When he announced the upcoming LP, DeMarco admitted that the project laid everything bare. “I think Guitar is as close to a true representation of where I’m at in my life today as I can manage to put to paper. I’m happy to share this music, and look forward to playing these songs as many places as I’m able.”

DeMarco will spend the rest of the year on tour, which is set to begin on August 29th at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The US leg will conclude on September 29th at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California.

On October 21st, DeMarco will land in mainland Europe, beginning at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. In the UK and Ireland, DeMarco will perform in Birmingham, Brighton, London, Cambridge, Manchester, and Dublin. His tour concludes with a trip around his native Canada in December.
