Lynne Ramsay confirms Jonny Greenwood will score ‘Polaris’, starring Joaquin Phoenix
Lynne Ramsay has provided an update on her long-awaited movie Polaris, set to star Joaquin Phoenix, as she confirmed that Jonny Greenwood will be writing the score for the film.
The prolific director, who is shortly set to release her first movie in eight years in the form of Die My Love, featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, made the revelation on Polaris when asked about her slew of upcoming projects, given that she seems to have had a new lease of life in the filmmaking industry.
In a new interview with The Saturday Paper in Australia, Ramsay revealed that she has a whole host of projects in the pipeline, not least Polaris which Greenwood has now come on board with. She said: “I’ve got one script ready, another is one draft away from being ready, and both of them are greenlit.”
Subsequently, the filmmaker added: “I’ve got another one, Polaris, that is a real passion project, with Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, that’s set in Alaska in 1910. I really love that script — Jonny Greenwood read it and said he could feel the cold, so that’s gonna make life easy.”
The lead Radiohead guitarist has similarly made a name for himself in cinema alongside rock music in recent years, having previously written the scores for Ramsay’s last two films, You Were Never Really Here and We Need to Talk About Kevin.
He has also composed the scores for other high-profile directors, including no less than six credits working with Paul Thomas Anderson, and the Oscar-winning The Power of the Dog from Jane Campion in 2021.
No further details have yet been revealed regarding Polaris or any of Ramsay’s other upcoming projects, even though the former has been in the works in some capacity for at least half a decade.
Her current film, Die My Love, will be released in the US and UK on November 7th, 2025.
