American singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus is opting to donate all of the profits from her forthcoming Texas shows to abortion funds.
This move follows the recent Supreme Court ruling to deny the request from Texas abortion clinics to block the State’s recent decision to near-enough ban abortions as per Senate Bill 8.
The ruling bans any abortion after six weeks, which often doesn’t allow enough time for a woman to ascertain whether she is definitely pregnant or not in the first place.
Under the ruling, private citizens will also be able to sue people who assisted in delivering an abortion, and that stretches to providing transport or funds. In short, the ruling will mean that Texas has some of the strictest abortion laws in the Western world.
As a result, Lucy Dacus, who heralds from Virginia, has released a statement on social media announcing: “All the money I make at our upcoming shows in Texas will be going towards abortion funds jsyk [just so you know], if you’re not cool with that don’t come.”
Adding: “If you are cool with that (and are vaccinated) Austin and Dallas are sold out, but Houston and San Antonio are not, come thru and bring extra $ cause I’m gonna figure out a donation situation.”
The indie musician has concerts in Texas on September 17th at Trees in Dallas which is already sold out. The following day at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston. And another sold-out show at the Scoot Inn in Austin on the 19th. Followed by a final date in the State at the Paper Tiger in San Antonio where tickers are still available.
