Lucy Dacus offers to officiate fans weddings for free
Lucy Dacus is asking fans to come forward to contact her to officiate their weddings during her upcoming US tour.
Earlier this month on July 11th, Dacus shared on X: “If I figure out a way to marry people at my shows, are there people who would be interested? just thinking about how there may be many people looking to secure those rights asap for whatever reason (!) or maybe money or logistics are getting in the way- would do this for free.”
Then, 30 minutes later, she returned to the social media platform to reveal that she is “ordained in the US”. While this may, to the cynical eye, seem like a way to plug her tour dates, Dacus was wholly serious and has come good on her promise.
In an update, following a warm reception to the question from fans, Dacus revealed to her followers that she was going ahead with the plans and set up an area of her website with all the relevant information for those who want help getting hitched.
The Boygenius member’s website includes the following message from Dacus: “I can think of all sorts of reasons people may be interested in securing the rights granted through marriage (you know what I mean?), so if you’ve had it in mind forever or are just recently making the decision, I will be honored to do the honors!”
Additionally, her website’s wedding section also links to marriage information relating to each state and a form for fans to submit their application. The only necessary criteria are a marriage license and tickets to the tour.
The North American tour begins at FDR Park in Philadelphia on July 25th, and will conclude at All Things Go Festival in Maryland on September 27th. Notable dates include the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta and The Criterion in Oklahoma City.
