Lorde teases comeback and first new material in four years
Lorde has teased her comeback to music and her first new material in four years in a new video posted to TikTok.
The singer posted a 15-second clip of herself to the social media platform on April 9th, where she is seen walking through Washington Square Park in New York.
The audio from the clip teases a new song, which sounds like a synth-pop blast quintessential to Lorde’s style. The lyrics heard in the video were: “Since I was 17/ I gave you everything/ Now we wake from a dream/ Well baby, what was that?”
This potential new music would mark Lorde’s first efforts since 2021’s Solar Power. That album saw her depart from synth-pop in favour of a more psychedelic and ethereal sound, but the latest clip suggests she is perhaps returning to her roots.
Although the New Zealand singer has not released music of her own in some time, her most notable recent appearances was on the 2024 remix of ‘Girl, So Confusing’ on the deluxe version of Charli XCX’s smash hit Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not.
Elsewhere, she also performed a cover of the Talking Heads classic ‘Take Me to the River’ for their tribute album Everyone’s Getting Involved last year and, most recently, performed with New Zealand singer Marlon Williams on his Māori language album Te Whare Tīwekaweka with the song ‘Kāhore He Manu E’, which was released last week.
Any possible forthcoming album would mark Lorde’s fourth studio effort, following on from Solar Power in 2021, the critically acclaimed Melodrama in 2017, and her debut Pure Heroine in 2013.
