Lorde donates over $200,000 to Minnesota immigration charities
Lorde has donated more than $200,000 to charities in Minnesota that help immigrants.
The New Zealander has donated her take from merchandise sales from two shows in Minneapolis last year, which took place at The Armory on October 11th and 12th, to the Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee and Immigrant Defense Network.
In total, Lorde has split $204,000 between the two charities amid the ongoing ICE raids across Minnesota, which saw protestors Alex Pretti and Renee Good killed by ICE officials in January.
She made the announcement on Instagram Stories along with an image that featured “ICE OUT” written on her hand.
Lorde has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, previously condemning their treatment of the transgender community in 2025.
She told Rolling Stone, “I see these incredibly brave young people, and it’s complicated. Making the expression privately is one thing, but I want to make very clear that I’m not trying to take any space from anyone who has more on the line than me. Because I’m, comparatively, in a very safe place as a wealthy, cis, white woman.”
Lorde’s financial donation is just one way that the musical community has rallied around Minneapolis in recent weeks. Most notably, Bruce Springsteen expressed solidarity with protestors on his new single, ‘Streets of Minneapolis‘, which he released in memory of Good and Pretti.
On January 30th, Springsteen gave the song its live debut as a surprise guest at Tom Morello’s ‘Defend Minnesota’ fundraiser, organised in honour of the families of Good and Pretti.
In addition to leading the crowd through a chant of “ICE out now”, Springsteen also dedicated it to ”the people of Minneapolis, the people of Minnesota, and the people of our good country of the United States of America.”
Meanwhile, at the Grammys, both Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish used their speeches to condemn ICE, which led to Kristi Noem labelling the musicians “ill-informed“.
