A previously unreleased demo Beatles of ‘What Goes On’ from 1963 is currently up for sale on eBay.
The track, which was originally placed on 1965 album Rubber Soul, featured vocals by drummer Ringo Starr. However, the newly found rare demo has different lyrics and sees John Lennon take the lead on the mic.
The listing on eBay claims that the early recording has Lennon also on guitar while Paul McCartney provides some of the harmony. The track has become the source of some debate over the years, Lennon previously said that he wrote the song in the band’s earliest days. “That was an early Lennon, written before the Beatles when we were the Quarrymen or something like that,” said Lennon according to Kenneth Womack’s book The Beatles Encyclopedia: Everything Fab Four.
