Lindsey Buckingham has suffered ‘vocal cord damage’ after undergoing emergency heart surgery

Lindsey Buckingham, best known for being the former lead guitarist and one of the vocalists of Fleetwood Mac, has been forced to undergo emergency open heart surgery.

Kristen Buckingham, the wife of Lindsey confirmed he underwent surgery last week and is now at home recuperating. The surgery was a success, however, Buckingham has said to have suffered ‘vocal cord damage’ during the procedure.

It is not yet known of the severity but given the circumstances all his pre-planned tour dates have been postponed.

In a statement, Kristen Buckingham said: “Each day he is stronger than the last. While he and his heart are doing well, the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.”

She continued: “This past year has been a very stressful and difficult year for our family, to say the least. But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. We feel so fortunate he’s alive. As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him.”
