Liam Gallagher and John Squire announce debut album ‘Mars to Liverpool’

Liam Gallagher and John Squire have confirmed the release date for their debut album, Mars to Liverpool, and released the title track. To pique excitement, they’ve also announced details of a tour.

After months of teasing their artistic convergence, earlier this month, the former Oasis frontman and The Stone Roses guitarist shared their debut single, ‘Just Another Rainbow’. The song arrived after Gallagher promised excited fans online that their new album is the “best record” since The Beatles released their psychedelic masterpiece, Revolver, in 1966.

The Manchester heroes have confirmed that Mars To Liverpool will be released on March 1st, 2024. To mark the announcement, they’ve also shared the title track, which follows the lead single ‘Just Another Rainbow’, which arrived earlier this month.

A more direct piece than its predecessor, the new track features a swaggering chord progression from Squire that recalls vintage aspects of The Stone Roses as well as broader classic rock, with the duo packaging a psychedelic twist in the chorus via the warm, undulating bassline. In the anthemic chorus, Gallagher sings: “Here comes that feeling / Here it comes again / I’m waiting for this storm / To run out of rain”.

The duo’s long-awaited tour commences on March 13th at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom before hitting cities such as London, Dublin, Leeds, Manchester, Paris and Berlin, before concluding at Brooklyn’s Paramount on April 11th. Jake Bugg is the special guest at all locations except the New York show.

Of the upcoming album, Liam Gallagher said: “I can’t wait for people to hear the album. I think the people that are into the Stone Roses and Oasis and that kinda thing, I think they’ll fucking love it. It’s spiritual, it’s crucial. LG x”.

John Squire added: “It was really inspiring to have those Knebworth gigs fresh in my mind as I started writing. Then it was a case of trying to steer it away from all being too rocky, and trying to mix up the sentiments as well. I like the way that in some parts, it’s quite melancholic and it can make you well up, but there are other parts that are kind of irreverent, rude or crude. There’s a little bit of everything in there, I think it’s a really good mix. I had a hunch that we’d sound good together, but I wasn’t prepared for it to be such a good fit.”
