Leonardo DiCaprio confesses he’s never seen ‘Titanic’

Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed that he has never seen Titanic.

DiCaprio starred in James Cameron’s 1997 classic alongside Kate Winslet, which turned him into a certified A-list star. It won 11 Academy Awards, including the prestigious ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’.

However, in a new interview with Jennifer Lawrence, who he’s set to star alongside in the upcoming Martin Scorsese movie What Happens At Night, for Variety, DiCaprio jaw-droppingly shared that he’s never watched the movie that transformed his career.

Titanic came up in conversation after Lawrence asked about DiCaprio’s reasoning for not accepting the lead role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights, with whom he recently finally worked on One Battle After Another.

He explained of his reasoning, “It was a hybrid of that. Titanic and Boogie Nights kind of overlapped in production. Maybe it could have worked out.”

Then, Lawrence asked if he’d “rewatched” Titanic, to which DiCaprio surprisingly replied, “No. I haven’t seen it before.” The Oscar-winner then explained, “I don’t really watch my films”.

Lawrence also revealed she rarely watches her own films, humourously stating, “Once I was really drunk, I put on American Hustle. I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m good at acting?’ I put it on, and I don’t remember what the answer is.”

DiCaprio has been open about his philosophy in regards to not watching his own work in the past, telling Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire in August, “I rarely watch any of my films, but if I’m being honest, there’s one that I have watched more than others. It’s The Aviator. That’s simply because it was such a special moment to me.”

In November, Lawrence confirmed that she and DiCaprio will begin shooting What Happens At Night with Scorsese in early 2026. The film follows an American couple who travel to a snowy European city with plans to adopt a baby when a series of strange scenarios occur.
