First look at Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone in new Martin Scorsese film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

Martin Scorsese fans have been gifted their first look at his new film Killers of the Flower Moon.

For the movie, the director has assembled a mouth-watering ensemble cast with the likes of Robert DeNiro, Tantoo Cardinal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone and a host of other rolling cast announcements, and he has wrapped it all in the enticing concoction of rolling Osage landscapes, mysterious circumstances, dastardly oilmen and the non-fiction framework of J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI.

“We are thrilled to finally start production on ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ in Oklahoma,” Scorsese said in a statement when announcing production. “To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people. We’re grateful to Apple, the Oklahoma Film and Music Office and The Osage Nation, especially all our Osage consultants and cultural advisors, as we prepare for this shoot. We’re excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten.”

As previously reported, there have been various adjustments made to the project during the pre-production phase that delayed the original shooting date as production companies rejected casting changes. DiCaprio was originally set for the lead role but after various discussions decided that he was more suitable for the supporting role and that Plemons should take on the lead. It was a decision that led many production companies to conclude that the film would be less commercial in this guise. Fortunately, Apple Films took up the mantle along with The Oklahoma Film + Music Office and filming began yesterday.

In recent months both Scorsese and DiCaprio have met with Osage Nation members to ensure the film would accurately depict the culture and setting.

In a statement, the Chief of the Osage Nation, Geoffrey Standing Bear, announced: “In recent meetings with Oklahoma Senators and House of Representative Members I made the point of how much their support for the movie industry has made a difference. This is a very strong, lucrative business which directly benefits many Oklahomans, including the Sovereign Nations. It promotes financial opportunities and cultural recognition for all.”

Geoffrey Standing Bear later added: “The funding from the State of Oklahoma along with the efforts of the Osage Nation have proven to be a big draw for this film in particular. We are now seeing the fruits of all of our efforts to bring this great movie production here and now!”

Filming at this time of year is also likely to catch the Osage landscape at its blooming best and provide a backdrop befitting of the classy sounding title, Killers of the Flower Moon. Filming will continue throughout the summer making a release date in 2022 likely.

For now, enjoy the first shot of Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone in action.
