Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has heaped praise on climate change activist Greta Thunberg following a recent meeting between the two.
DiCaprio, a passionate environmental activist himself who has campaigned relentlessly in recent years, took his desire for action to the highest level when he delivered a climate change speech during his Oscar-winning speech: “Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating,” DiCaprio said.
“We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this. For our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed,” he added in his speech.
Now, as he joined forces with 16-year-old activist Thunberg, DiCaprio has hailed the teenager as “leader of our time” as she continually powerful speeches with prolific fashion.
“There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time,” DiCaprio wrote in a post on social media.
“History will judge us for what we do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same livable planet that we have so clearly taken for granted,” he continued. “I hope that Greta’s message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over.”
