With excitement building around the upcoming Ridley Scott film House Of Gucci, lead actor Lady Gaga has shared the first photo from the set.
Lady Gaga, who joined the cast of the new film which tells the story of the assassination of Gucci grandson Maurizio Gucci, is working alongside the likes of Al Pacino, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jack Huston and more in what is her first role since her Oscar-nominated performance in A Star Is Born.
Maurizio Gucci was the son of Rodolfo Gucci and grandson of Guccio Gucci, the original founder of the now-iconic fashion house of Gucci. Maurizio Gucci, who at one time was the head of the company, went on to sell his shares in a deal worth approximately $170 million in 1993. Two years after the deal, in 1995, Gucci was shot dead by a hitman.
After a long trial, Gucci’s ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, who was dubbed ‘The Black Widow’ by the media, was sentenced to 29 years in prison for orchestrating his death. Reggiani would go on to serve 20 years of her sentence before being released in 2016 for good behaviour.
Following her release, Reggiani sat down with The Guardian where she said: “If I could see Maurizio again I would tell him that I love him, because he is the person who has mattered most to me in my life,” after claims her daughters made that she had suffered a brain tumour that had affected her behaviour and decision making. When asked what Gucci would say back if the two were ever able to meet again, she replied: “I think he’d say the feeling wasn’t mutual.”
For Ridley Scott, the new picture arrives as the follow-up to Alien: Covenant, the sixth instalment overall in the Alien film series which was released in 2017. It is claimed by Variety that Scott will be bringing in Roberto Bentivegna to write the script which is said to be loosely based on Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.
“Did Patrizia Reggiani murder her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci, in 1995 because his spending was wildly out of control? Did she do it because her glamorous ex was preparing to marry his mistress, Paola Franchi? Or is there a possibility she didn’t do it at all?” the synopsis of the book reads.
“In this gripping account of the ascent, eventual collapse, and resurrection of the Gucci dynasty, Sara Gay Forden takes us behind the scenes of the trial and exposes the passions, the power, and the vulnerabilities of the greatest fashion family of our times.”
