Kristen Stewart reveals ambition to direct a new ‘Twilight’ movie

Kristen Stewart has revealed that she would love to return to the Twilight franchise as a director for a potential reboot of the series.

The actor was reflecting on her breakout role in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying she would ideally like to return to a hypothetical reboot of the films if she were to take on a role behind the camera.

“I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” Stewart said.

Reflecting on the qualities of the filmmaking that she too would like to embody, she added: “They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.”

When asked what it would take for her to jump on board such a project, the actor said it would require “a huge budget” and “a bunch of love and support” in order to bring the full extent of her visions to the screen.

Ultimately, Stewart made clear that she was in favour of any such reboot of Twilight with her as the director, noting, “Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

As her breakout role in Hollywood, Stewart starred in the Twilight series with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner over the course of 2008 to 2012, grossing over $3 billion in total at the box office and becoming one of the most successful franchises of all time.

While still remaining committed to her on-screen roles, the actor has recently turned her attention more towards the director’s chair, having been behind the new movie The Chronology of Water, starring Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, and Jim Belushi.

She has also co-written, produced, and will star in the upcoming comedy film The Wrong Girls opposite Seth Rogen, and is also set to appear in Flesh of the Gods.
