King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard share new song ‘Self-Immolate’

It should come as little surprise that Australia’s hardest working psych rockers, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, are big with yet another new single.

The band, who only released their new album Fishing for Fishies a month ago, have shared ‘Self-Immolate’ a song that does not appear on their latest record.

“We tried to make a blues record,” says frontman Stu Mackenzie of the new album. “A blues-boogie-shuffle-kinda-thing, but the songs kept fighting it – or maybe it was us fighting them. Ultimately though we let the songs guide us this time; we let them have their own personalities and forge their own path. Paths of light, paths of darkness. This is a collection of songs that went on wild journeys of transformation.”

Speaking to Dork recently, Mackenzie added: “We’ve never made a record like this before. We thought we knew what we were trying to make. We really thought we knew what we were doing, and then… It’s funny after making five records with conviction.”

He added: “For me, I think about making albums a lot more than I think about making songs. An individual song, for me, has to make sense on an album. It has to work in sequence with the record. It has to fit.”

The new single, however, does not fit the band’s self driven ambition to record a “blues-boogie-shuffle-kinda-thing” and, instead, is an intense driving number with Mackenzie not holding back on the hard vocals.

Here it is:
