Melbourne septet King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard are one of the new breed of psyche dribbling, heavy riffed Aussies currently brandishing tunes as heavy as the impending sky and ‘Satan Speeds Up’ proves their one of the best. It’s our Track of the Day.
As Hendrix twangs and tweaks spill from the speakers and the more ethereal sounds begin to permeate the track like a thick sticky smog the band easily resemble a more-stoned POND.
Stu Mackenzie’s tender vocals only add to the all-encompassing sound which envelops the listener with a spirituality that is only present in truly laid-back psyche. That all sits rather well until you understand the song’s protagonist is Satan himself and the melting of our musical minds becomes a little more sinister. But I couldn’t think of a better way to start the weekend, can you?
