King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard announce EDM album, ‘Alien Metal’
Melbourne genre-hyphenates King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have announced their 28th album, Alien Metal, which will see them push into the electronic dance sphere.
Following on from their 2023 album, The Silver Cord, the six-piece have written and recorded the LP on the modular synthesizer set-up which joined them on the road for their rave shows last year. They named the piece of equipment Nathan.
The eight-track record will be released later this summer via p(doom) record. The band’s Stu Mackenzie has admitted that Alien Metal proved one of their most difficult records to make.
“We’ve never scrapped so much material as we have for this album,” Mackenzie shared. “Entire albums, entire universes that were formulated, created, recorded, deleted and started again. It sounds so crunchy, but also beautiful.”
Joey Walker expanded on this notion, adding, “Alien Metal goes really hard, but it also goes to really interesting places. And it feels unique – it feels like us, still.”
No matter how hard it was to get there, the final piece promises an “ever-shifting journey through techno, hardcore, house and jungle influences, filtered through King Gizzard’s unmistakable psychedelic lens.”
To celebrate the announcement, the band has released their first track, ‘Level 5’, which is accompanied by a video featuring a cameo by one of Australia’s most recognised actors, Vince Colosimo.
Beyond the album release, the prolific band is also looking ahead to the return of their now sold-out Fields Of Vision Festival, as well as a run of three headline shows at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, topped off with an additional “rave show” in Brooklyn.
