King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard add all music to Bandcamp after quitting Spotify

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have finally re-uploaded their music to a streaming platform, using Bandcamp in a name-your-price model.

The Australian rock band joined a mass exodus from Spotify at the end of July to protest the investments of the company’s CEO, Daniel EK, in a firm called Helsing, which develops AI drone technology to be used within the military.

At the time, the band said: “We do not want our music killing people,” before adding, “We just removed our music from the platform. Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better?”

Subsequently, after well over a month of fans being unable to stream the band’s music through the usual means, the entire King Gizzard back catalogue has now been uploaded to Bandcamp, a streaming platform where the royalties earned go directly to the artists.

To this end, the band have also implemented a ‘name your price’ scheme, where listeners can input any amount of money in Australian dollars in order to access their desired stream of King Gizzard’s music, which in turn provides direct support to the band.

Their page on the platform also adds that paying supporters who contribute any monetary value will be able to access the stream an unlimited amount of times via the Bandcamp app, which is free.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are not the only artists to have recently spoken out on the questionable ethics of Spotify, with bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor having also removed their music from the streamer and other platforms such as Tidal.

The Australian rock band are set to tour the UK and Europe in the coming months, starting on October 31st at the Aviva Studios in Manchester, before heading for three special shows in London, split between the Electric Ballroom in Brixton and the Royal Albert Hall.
