Kim Novak says she is “concerned” about her biopic starring Sydney Sweeney

Kim Novak has admitted she is “concerned” about the upcoming movie, Scandalous!, starring Sydney Sweeney.

The forthcoming movie, directed by Colman Domingo, focuses on Novak’s relationship with Sammy Davis Jr during the 1950s, which caused a huge societal backlash in Hollywood that threatened her career. Sweeney has been cast as Novak, and David Jonsson will play Davis.

However, in a new interview with The Guardian, the 92-year-old film icon explained her reservations about the project and the title of the movie, stating, “I don’t think the relationship was scandalous.”

Novak continued: “He’s somebody I really cared about. We had so much in common, including that need to be accepted for who we are and what we do, rather than how we look. But I’m concerned they’re going to make it all sexual reasons.”

Despite the title of the movie, Domingo, who is stepping behind the camera for the first time on the movie, previously ensured that it would be a celebration of Novak’s relationship with Davis Jr.

He said in 2024: “Hopefully we’ll make a beautiful, sweet film that’s really about the possibility of love, but under many eyes, trying to have privacy, trying to have love, trying to have a life. And I think it’s something that Sydney and I both know very well. We’re trying to advocate for your humanity again in your life.”

As the movie is still yet to enter production due to scheduling conflicts, there has been no release date revealed for Scandalous!

Following her recent American Eagle controversy, it has been a disappointing time for Sweeney’s last two releases at the box office. Americana, which stars both Halsey and Sweeney alongside Paul Walter Hauser, arrived in cinemas on August 15th, 2025, and scored sales of $500,000 during the first week of the box office.

Similarly, Sweeney’s other new movie, Eden, directed by Ron Howard, also struggled at the box office, earning only $1 million.
