Kid Cudi pays homage to Kurt Cobain with SNL appearance

Kid Cudi put on a show over the weekend, appearing as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live to perform two tracks from his 2020 album, Man On The Moon III: The Chosen.

The rapper performed the tracks ‘Tequila Shots’ and ‘Sad People’, with Cudi channelling his inner Kurt Cobain for the latter’s performance. He arrived on stage wearing a floral print dress in a similar vein to the one’s that Cobain famously wore throughout the ’90s, with the rapper since confirming it was a tribute.

“Virgil designed the dress for me. I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt w a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece,” the rapper wrote on Twitter.

Cudi had previously spoken about how he expresses himself through clothing and how his fashion choices led to him getting mercilessly mocked when he was younger.

“I remember I wore a kilt, and everyone made fun of me, like, ‘Cudi wears a dress’,” he said in a conversation with Jaden Smith in 2018. “It was just people being ignorant. But at that time, I thought, ‘hip-hop is the most judgmental genre of music.’ Now, you can be yourself and do your own thing. This is what I dreamed the business would be like.”

The rapper’s most recent album was another storming success and also saw him collaborate with artists including the late Pop Smoke, Phoebe Bridgers, Trippie Redd and Skepta.
