Kevin Parker reveals new Tame Impala album is influenced by Travis Scott and shopping while stoned
During an open and honest conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the leading man of Tame Impala, Kevin Parker, spoke with the DJ about the influences which have gone into making their next LP The Slow Rush.
The bubbling anticipation for The Slow Rush has been steadily growing. The hob was flicked on around four months ago and with a drip-feed of singles coming through slowly, it’s beginning to reach fever pitch.
Now with the release just a couple of days away, Parker has spoken with Lowe about some of the album’s influences. Namely Travis Scott and getting stoned while shopping.
After working with the rapper, Scott, on both this and some of the rapper’s own work, Parker said of the artist, “he’s so enthused by ideas. If he has an idea or if someone has an idea, he’s into it, he’d just go for it. He doesn’t waste time kind of doubting himself or doubting things. Which is extremely valuable, because you need that burst of conviction.”
On this record more than most, Parker seems intent in pushing himself creatively, he revealed to Lowe that he would “do anything that gets me inspired, anything that kind of gives me, that causes those lightning bolts.”
“Even with this album, I was doing things that made me uncomfortable just for the purpose of being creative because I’m the most creative when I’m uncomfortable.” Since being in public while stoned is not extremely fun, Parker said “get stoned and go to the shops” explaining that the start of one of the songs ‘Breathe Deeper’ was from that.”
