Keke Palmer names her favourite movies of all time
One of the most unlikely stars to climb the ranks of the contemporary movie industry is Keke Palmer, the singer and actor known for her Emmy Award-winning turn in Turnt Up with the Taylors and the Jordan Peele sci-fi blockbuster Nope. A frenetic performer known for her magnetic on-screen roles, Palmer has collaborated with the likes of Krystin Ver Linden and Lee Daniels in recent years.
Whilst in the creative flow of bringing her album Big Boss to life, in recent years, Palmer has risen to success on the big screen, appearing in 2019’s Hustlers alongside Jennifer Lopez, as well as 2022’s Alice, a crime flick where she took a starring role. In the very same year, Palmer would significantly increase her star power, voicing Izzy in Pixar’s Lightyear whilst stealing the show of Peele’s Nope as Emerald Haywood.
As an ever-more visible cinematic force, Palmer recently discussed some of her favourite movies of all time, thrilling longtime fans of the singer and actor.
The first she mentions is the classic 1980s family flick The Goonies, directed by Richard Donner. Telling the story of a group of misfit kids who discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find some long-lost pirate treasure, the film has long been loved by young cinephiles, most likely due to the fact that Steven Spielberg had a hand in the making of this slice of cinema magic, owning credits as a writer and producer.
Elsewhere, Palmer names one movie that she had a part in putting to the screen, Tyler Perry’s 2006 comedy Madea’s Family Reunion. A beloved film series, Family Reunion is the second of the long-running franchise. Telling the story of a grandma putting on a family reunion who has to contend with multiple unseen dramas, the movie features Palmer alongside Lynn Whitfield, Tyler Perry and Blair Underwood.
Her final movie on her favourites list is perhaps the most curious of the bunch, opting for the 1991 animation Rock-A-Doodle, helmed by Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and Dan Kuenster. Somewhat forgettable in the world of animation, the film tells the story of a young boy who transforms into a cat and teams up with a load of other barnyard animals to defeat a group of animals. The psychedelic flick features voicework from the likes of Christopher Plummer, Glen Campbell and Sorrell Booke.
