Keanu Reeves pays tribute to Diane Keaton: “A very special, unique person”
Keanu Reeves has paid tribute to his former co-star Diane Keaton, calling her “a very special, unique person” to work with.
Keaton sadly passed away at the age of 79 on October 11th, subsequently leading to Reeves being asked about her at a screening of his latest film, Good Fortune, in New York on October 13th. The pair had previously worked together on the 2003 film Something’s Gotta Give.
The actor told E News that Keaton was a “total pro”, before adding, “She was very nice to me. [She was a] generous, generous artist and a very special, unique person.” Reeves played the supporting role of Julian Mercer in the romantic comedy film, opposite Keaton in the central role of Erica Barry and Jack Nicholson as Harry Sanborn.
Reflecting on the prolific partnership that Keaton and Nicholson shared, Reeves continued, “It was cool to be able to see her and Jack Nicholson together. Just with the history they shared and the way the fondness and love they had for each other. It’s really cool.”
Nancy Meyers directed the cast in Something’s Gotta Give, as she took to Instagram herself on October 13th to share her own tribute to Keaton. “These past 48 hours have not been easy,” she wrote, before adding, “Seeing all of your tributes to Diane has been a comfort.”
Noting how the actor was “a movie lover,” but more importantly, “a friend of almost 40 years,” Meyers explained how Keaton “felt like a sister because we shared so many truly memorable experiences.”
For her role in Something’s Gotta Give, Keaton earned an Oscar nomination that year for ‘Best Actress’, marking her fourth and final nomination in the category over the course of her career. She had previously won the award for Annie Hall in 1977.
