Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock to star in new romance thriller

In 1994, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock wowed audiences with their performances in the cult classic action-thriller Speed. Now, the pair are set to work together again in a romance thriller for Amazon MGM.

Though plot details are still under wraps, the studio has described the story as “propulsive.” Noah Oppenheim, whose previous work includes Jackie and Zero Day, is set to write the screenplay.

Bullock will also be a producer of the film via Fortis Films. Reeves, Mark Gordon and Bibby Dunn will produce via The Mark Gordon Company, and Oppenheim and Sarah Bremner via Prologue Entertainment.

The project came about when Gordon and Oppenheim brought the idea for the film to Reeves and Bullock. The pair also starred together in 2006’s The Lake House.

This news may surprise some Bullock fans, who may have noted recently that she said she is eager to return to comedy. While the actor has certainly explored a range of genres over the years, like horror with Bird Box and sci-fi with Gravity, she can safely say that comedy is her preferred style of film to star in.

In 2023, Far Out described Speed as an “iconic piece of action cinema that fits together like a gridlocked traffic jam. Prioritising entertainment over anything else, Speed is a full-throttle destruction derby of joy where Dennis Hopper, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are your sugar-pumped ringmasters.”

Recently, it was revealed that the John Wick star has also been cast as the villain in rock band Weezer’s upcoming movie, which is currently in production. Though details surrounding the mysterious project remain under wraps, according to a new report by The Insneider, it has been compared to a mix of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
