Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman and general badass Karen O has today announced that she will join Danger Mouse to create a collaborative LP. The album news comes alongside a simply spellbinding new single called ‘Lux Prima’ – it’s our Track of the Day.
At nine minutes of deep textural cuts, this is not the same shimmering rock and roll “wham, bam thank you ma’am” we expect from Karen O. Her brash and brazen style of band leadership won’t be at centre stage here. No, this single sees Karen’s vocal get the spotlight, and we’re all the better for it.
The single is released with the promise of an album – if you can get it! This one will be a collector’s item with only a limited run of the white 12″ being released to only select independent record shops.
Karen O said: “After making music for the past twenty years and embarking on making this record with Danger Mouse I knew a couple things: one was that the spirit of collaboration between us was going to be a pure one, and two was that the more I live the less is clear to me. When you create from a blurry place you can go places further than you’ve ever been. I think we both were excited to go far out.”
Danger Mouse added: “With ‘Lux Prima,’ we were really looking for a place rather than a sound. It was our first shared destination so we thought we’d take our time getting there. The song itself is a bit of a journey, but all the parts felt like they needed each other.”
