‘Nip/Tuck’ actor Julian McMahon dies aged 56

The Australian actor Julian McMahon, who was best known for his roles in television on much-loved TV series like Nip/Tuck, FBI: Most Wanted, and Charmed, passed away at age 56. 

McMahon died on July 2nd in Clearwater, Florida. He had previously been diagnosed with cancer but decided not to share this information with the public.

His death was confirmed on July 4th when his wife shared a statement. “With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” she wrote, “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy to as many lives as possible.”

She continued, asking that people support her and her family throughout this period and allow them their privacy. “We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

McMahon was born in Sydney in 1968. His career began in 1980 when he started modelling and moved into acting in 1990. One of his first acting jobs was performing in the popular Australian soap opera Home and Away, where he appeared in 150 episodes. 

One of his most notorious roles came in 2003, where he played the plastic surgeon Dr Christian Troy in the medical drama Nip/Tuck. He was in the series for six seasons between 2003 and 2010, and was adored by fans and critics, as his performance earned him a Golden Globe Nomination.

McMahon also made the jump into Hollywood, performing as the notorious Fantastic Four supervillain Doctor Doom. He appeared in both movies in 2005 and 2007 and also voiced Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Fourvideo game.

A flood of tributes have poured in since news of his passing broke, highlighting just how loved McMahon was both on and off screen.
