Johnny Depp could return for new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie, producer reveals
Jerry Bruckenheimer, the producer of Pirates of the Caribbean, has claimed Johnny Depp could return to the franchise as Jack Sparrow.
The last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, arrived in 2017. Since then, Depp has been involved in a legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, which led to him being dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise and becoming a persona non grata in Hollywood.
Depp made his return to acting in 2023 with the French-language movie Jeanne du Barry, which he followed up with Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness in 2024.
He is set to make his Hollywood return alongside Penelope Cruz in the upcoming Marc Webb movie, Day Drinker, and now, Bruckenheimer believes another Pirates of the Caribbean movie with Depp is a feasible possibility.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckenheimer shared: “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it.”
The producer continued: “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know… We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.”
Last year, during a separate interview, Bruckenheimer seemingly claimed that Pirates of the Caribbean would be relaunching with an all-new cast. He told ComicBook: “We’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
