Johnny Depp addresses abuse allegations on the set of ‘Blow’
Johnny Depp has addressed abuse allegations made by actor Lola Glaudini, who worked on the 2001 crime drama Blow and recalled an incident where Depp reprimanded her for a bad take.
Discussing her experience on an episode of Powerful Truth Angels, Glaudini discussed being instructed to burst out laughing during one take, which would appear in the background while Depp delivered his lines.
Detailing the situation, she said that after she did a “big laugh”, Depp walked over to her and “sticks his finger in my face.” She claims that Depp then proceeded to lambast her, saying: “Who the fuck do you think you are? Who the fuck do you think you are? Shut the fuck up. I’m out here, and I’m trying to fucking say my lines and you’re fucking pulling focus. You fucking idiot.”
The actor continued: “Oh, now, oh now it’s not so funny? Now you can shut up? Now you can fucking shut the fuck up? The quiet that you are right now, that’s how you fucking stay.’”
According to Glaudini, Depp approached her to offer an apology after the incident, explaining that “I was really in my head and staying in my character, I’m doing this Boston accent, and it’s really fucking with me.”
Taking her father’s advice to remain sensible and level-headed, Glaudini appeased Depp, assuring him that they were “totally cool.”
Responding to the allegations, a representative for Depp said: “Johnny always prioritises good working relationships with cast and crew and this recounting differs greatly from the recollection of other members on set at the time.”
The representative also referenced a quote made by the film’s sound technician Sam Sarkar, who said: “I worked on that movie in the sound department. As a sound person, you’re constantly listening to what is going on on set, listening for noises, listening for chatter.” He added: “In fact, specifically, I would listen to Johnny’s audio to check for interference, both during rehearsals and during the take. I never heard anything like that – and that would have been a remarkable event.”
Glaudini has yet to comment on Depp’s response.
