John Prine’s widow has slammed Donald Trump for his response to the coronavirus crisis that took her husband’s life earlier this year.
The singer was hospitalised on 26th March and was in intensive care for 13 days before he passed away aged 73 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennesse. Following his death, the music world paid tribute to the all-time great, with Bruce Springsteen poignantly writing “we are crushed by the loss of John Prine. John and I were ‘New Dylans’ together in the early 70s and he was never anything but the loveliest guy in the world. A true national treasure and a songwriter for the ages.”
His widow, Fiona Whelan Prine, quite understandably reacted angrily after Trump boasted about his handling of the crisis during Tuesday night’s first presidential debate with Joe Biden when it’s clear for all to see that his handling has been woeful.
“Can someone get that fucking idiot off the stage. My husband died on his watch,” Fiona Prine wrote on Twitter. One fan then responded furiously to her post and strangely told Ms Prine that she was “tainting” her husband’s legacy, she said: “You have not truly listened to his body of work if you think that John had anything but disdain for the modern Republican Party and all they represent. Trump is the ultimate manifestation of their self-serving hypocrisy.”
She previously posted on September 23rd that “we need an overwhelming blue wave this November. Trump has just indicated he will not commit to a peaceful transfer of power. Don’t think we couldn’t have a 20th century Civil War – if it happened once it can happen again”.
