John Mulaney postpones shows in Minnesota following ICE shooting: “The situation is so unsafe”

Comedian John Mulaney has postponed three shows in Minnesota after Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE official on January 7th.

Good, who described herself as a “poet, writer, wife, and mom” on her Instagram account, was a 37-year-old mother of three who had recently moved to Minnesota. The ICE official responsible for her death has since been named as Jonathan Ross.

In response to Good’s death, protests have sparked up in Minneapolis and all across the United States. In Portland, Oregon, two people were shot by federal immigration agents on January 8th.

Mulaney had been due to perform three shows at The Armory in Minneapolis this weekend, but has now pushed the dates back until April in light of the ongoing situation.

“What’s happening in your city is heartbreaking,” Mulaney told his followers on Instagram while explaining the reason for his postponement.

He added, “I hate to postpone shows in a town going through such awful challenges and such grief, because it feels unfair to the audience.”

Mulaney detailed that audience safety is the reason for the postponement, stating, “Still, I don’t feel comfortable asking thousands of people each night to leave their homes, gather at the venue, and then make their way home when the situation is so unsafe.”

He also told ticketholders, “Tickets for this weekend will be honored for their respective days of Friday through Sunday, April 10th, 11th and 12th. For any questions or refunds, please contact your point of purchase or Ticketmaster.”

While the comedian is regretful about his decision to postpone the shows, he does believe it’s the right thing to do amid the current situation in Minnesota, adding, “I am sorry to anyone who is disappointed. I know a fun stand-up show could be a nice distraction, but it doesn’t sit right with me to put anyone at risk.”
