John Lennon and The Last Dinner Party among artists featured in War Child’s latest Secret 7 project
War Child have confirmed details of the tenth anniversary edition of their Secret 7 record auction.
This year will see John Lennon, The Last Dinner Party, Gabrielle, The Maccabees, Skin, Glass Animals, and Bastille offer their tracks to the campaign, which will help War Child raise vital money to continue their crucial work.
The series, which is now in its tenth year, sees seven songs pressed just 100 times onto seven-inch vinyl, creating 700 limited-edition 7” records. Then, artists, designers, illustrators and creatives from around the world are tasked with creating a completely original sleeve inspired by a track of their choice, which is then auctioned in aid of War Child.
Lennon’s estate has offered up ‘Out of the Blue‘ to the campaign, which features alongside The Last Dinner Party’s ‘Let’s Do It Again!’, Gabrielle’s ‘Out of Reach’, and ‘No Kind Words’ from The Maccabees.
The list of songs is rounded out by Skin from Skunk Anansie’s solo track ‘Purple’, Glass Animals’ ‘Take A Slice’, and ‘Hope for the Future’ by Bastille.
War Child’s fundraising and engagement director, Charlotte Nimmo, said of this year’s campaign in a statement, “All of us at War Child are incredibly excited to be announcing the return of Secret 7” for its tenth edition. This year we’ve got some incredible tracks from some of the biggest names in music, all to help raise funds for War Child’s work.”
Nimmo then explained precisely why this campaign matters, highlighting that there is over 520 million children whose lives have been impacted by conflict across the world.
She passionately added, “The need has never been so great and it is increasing daily. We hope that, through this creative endeavour, we can offer music and art fans something truly unique to take home that brings them joy when they see and listen, and know that they helped have a tangible impact on children’s lives in the process.”
If any artists are reading this and interested in entering themselves, then more information is available here regarding submissions, which closes on June 11th.
The latest fundraising initiative from War Child comes following the release of Help (2) in March, which saw producer James Ford bring together huge names including Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Fontaines DC, Damon Albarn, Wet Leg, Foals, Big Thief, Pulp and Ezra Collective for a new compilation album.
